Anonymous asked: where do you find inspiration?
In everything. And I know that sounds cliché but it’s the truth. I can look around my bedroom right now and I see glow in the dark stars, an umbrella, a camo hat, my favourite bracelet, a beer bottle and a condom and all of these things are potential poems to me. Usually a piece will begin with one line, or even a word or phrase that pops into my brain and then forms into a larger idea. Sometimes songs inspire me, or other people’s posts, news articles, family, friends, random things that happen in my life. One of my favourite prose pieces that I wrote was inspired by an awful hangover.
I read a quote once about how true writing should be done alone in a dark room and that real literature cannot be created on the internet because there are too many inputs, too much garbage floating around, it makes truly original composition impossible. This may be true but it definitely wouldn’t work for me. For years I tried to write and never stuck to it, only producing the occasional half-assed poem. It was joining tumblr that provided the incentive to write more frequently. The validation of others matters a lot to me and I’m not ashamed to admit it.
This community is inspiring to me.
