I have no problem with your ego. It is likely what attracted me in the first place. I’ve always had a thing for guys like you. Those who live life with detached amusement like all the world is Coney Island on a rainy day. Everything is disappointing but you prefer it that way. You are at your best when you are unimpressed.

You remind me of my father in so many ways. He once made my date mow our front lawn at ten pm while waiting for me to get dressed. He always picks the most contentious side in an argument regardless of what he really believes. He carefully selects who and what will earn the privilege of five minutes of his attention.

But you’re not my dad. You aren’t fifty with two PhDs, two kids and a divorce under your belt. You haven’t earned the right to give so little of a shit.

You haven’t earned the right to tell me what to care about.
